Maria Pianelli Blair
Spark
The State of Affairs
From Maria: Analog collage, featuring vintage ephemera from mid-century magazines. The piece is meant to comment on the impact humans have had on climate change, and the laissez faire attitude that unfortunately continues to dominate much of the global response.

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
From Maria: Analog collage, featuring vintage ephemera. This piece focuses on the dangers of microplastics by placing a (poorly aged) ad from 1968 for styrofoam cups on top of fast facts about the negative impact styrofoam (or polystyrene) has on the food chain; the environment; and human health. It's a topic close to my heart because my husband is an environmental attorney focused on zero waste and has helped draft some of the US' first plastic and styrofoam bans.
