Children of  War

a canopy of remembrance is lifted

to the greening stems 
sequestered by gunfire 
as blood seeks even more blood the

rivers of vengeance are full and flow

into the arid trenches of war carrying

lost dreams and shadows of the now

forgotten hope 

this serves softly to acknowledge

that you lived. 
little lights extinguished in prime

names too many to number 
names too many to remember
